چکیده

Rev Ortop Traumatol (Madr.). 2007;51:94-101 Calcaneal fractures are 60% of fractures of the ankle bones and 2% of all fractures.Usually, they are caused by falls from a height on to the heels of the feet, and they are frequently seen in work accidents. The treatment of calcaneal fractures continues to be an object of discussion and in the case of displaced intraarticular fractures there is no consensus as to the best treatment method although the predominant tendency is to use conservative treatment. There are no uniform criteria for the classification and treatment of these fractures, and very different solutions are applied, especially in the case of complex and severe fractures. It is important to remember the frequent complications that make treatment even more difficult and are the reason for poor prognoses. Chronic residual pain is the most common sequelae after a comminuted calcaneal fracture. Although there are different causes, these fractures may be a consequence of compartmental syndrome, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, plantar pad syndrome, tarsal tunnel syndrome and personal and subtalar Corresponding author:

Osteosynthesis for intra-articular calcaneal fractures.

PURPOSE To correlate treatment results of intra-articular calcaneal fractures with their computed tomographic (CT) classification. METHODS 36 men and 4 women with 48 intra-articular calcaneal fractures (8 bilateral) underwent open reduction and internal fixation with bone grafting via an extensile lateral approach. Based on 2-dimensional CT scans, the fractures were categorised using the Sand...

Calcaneal fractures: Where are we now?

This review article on the current management for calcaneal fractures discusses the advantages and disadvantages of different treatment options including the problems encountered. Controversies are described and the evidence reviewed. The management of some types of displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures remains contentious; is there a preferred stabilisation method for each type of calc...

Interlocking Nailing Versus Interlocking Plating in Intra-articular Calcaneal Fractures: A Biomechanical Study.

BACKGROUND Open reduction and internal fixation with a plate is deemed to represent the gold standard of surgical treatment for displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures. Standard plate fixation is usually placed through an extended lateral approach with high risk for wound complications. Minimally invasive techniques might avoid wound complications but provide limited construct stability. ...

Arthroscopic Subtalar Arthrodesis after a Calcaneus Fracture Covered with a Forearm Flap

Surgical treatment of intraarticular calcaneal fractures is often associated with postoperative wound problems. Soft tissue necrosis, bone loss and uncontrollable infection are a challenge for the surgeon and amputation may in some cases be the ultimate solution. A free flap can be very helpful to cover a significant soft tissue defect and help in fighting the infection. However, the free flap ...

Pediatric and Adolescent Intra-Articular Fractures of the Calcaneus

Calcaneal fractures in childhood are very rare, whereas particularly intra-articular displaced fractures are not typical in skeletally immature children. Various techniques of osteosynthesis have been described. This study aimed to determine clinical and radiological outcome after surgical treatment of intraarticular calcaneal fractures. Fourteen intraarticular fractures of the calcaneus were i...
